For example, early on in Superliminal, the player is in a large room confronted with a door out of reach. The player can use this mechanic to increase and decrease the size of an object and progress through obstacles. The object will then change in size to match this. An object can be picked up and placed in a way that visually enlarges it based on the player’s perspective. This is done via manipulating an object based around forced perspective. The beginning of Superliminal sees it demonstrating to the player the core mechanic of the game, the ability to change the size of an object. The gameplay of Superliminal is quite difficult to describe. The player character becomes stuck in a dream, unable to wake up. This is supposed to help with certain life problems, but during the process, something goes wrong. Superliminal sees the player take control of an unnamed protagonist who has enrolled in a new technology called SomnaSculpt, a dream therapy program. Developed by Pillow Castle, it is a first-person puzzle game based around forced perspective and optical illusions. Supermininal is a game that fits this mandate. And if there was a game that could incorporate that in its gameplay? Then I am all for it… I’ve often thought that games are the perfect medium for such visuals, where the immersive nature of video games could heighten these experiences. I get a kick out of trippy visuals, ones that play with reality. Superliminal looks short - the speedrun is only 20 minutes long - though in part because the run features copious amounts of out-of-bounds skips, which are always cool to see. I’ve never seen a game play with perception quite like this before, putting a very unique spin on the “silent protagonist uses physics puzzles to escape” genre. How can you be so chill about this? That apple you picked up just transformed to fill up the room and I’m pretty sure that wetness coming out of my ears are bits of melted brain. His low-key, “we’re just vibin’” energy melds well with the sheer mind-bending madness of what he’s doing on screen, creating high comedy. I love how casual Crisper is during his run here. Describing how Superliminal works doesn’t do justice to how downright freaky it is to see this game in action. You manipulate objects to make them bigger or smaller and use them to complete simple physics puzzles while progressing through a nondescript building as a computer-generated voice delivers dry humour, akin to GLaDOS in Portal or the narrator in The Stanley Parable. Superliminal from Pillow Castle Games is a game in which your perception of an object changes its size. Well has most certainly hit on a lot of very important and valid points. It’s not like the app has to load in all of its features into memory at once ( duh) So what’s wrong with adding more? Especially with features like this which are so small. How much bloat will that add to the app? A few subroutines? Maybe a library dependency? If you’re really concerned about bloat that minute, don’t use OS X as you’ll find many common apps far, far, far too bloated for your taste.Įven on top of that, what’s wrong with people asking for more features from TotalFinder? Isn’t it already aspiring to become like PathFinder, etc.? I mean, again, all these sorts of apps are doing anyway is just adding on a random, nice mish-mash of things to the existing Finder app. On top of that, we’re just talking about a filtering feature for crap’s sake. Which is not to say that’s a bad thing, as the Unix philosophy is not always a good rule to adhere to. It’s not like TotalFinder, PathFinder, or what have you are particularly good at one thing and one thing only. You’re sitting there preaching about the Unix philosophy regarding an app whose sole purpose is really to just extend another app with various, rather unrelated features. Wtf? Sorry pal, but your arguments make no sense on so many levels there. Today it’s search feature, tomorrow it’s file compare, next day it’s folder syncing… My humble opinion. I realize people feel that their one feature request is hardly the ‘kitchen sink’, but my point is, where do you draw the line. I would not want TF to become the new ‘kitchen sink’ finder replacement. As reidrik.von pointed out, there are other apps that SPECIALIZE in searching, and other apps that specialize in FTP, and file compare, and folder synching, and so on. I believe if you polled most TF users they would agree, keep it light, just make sure what it does, it does well and without bugs. I want TF to remain light and fast and focus on the main reason I use it, dual pane side by side display, with a few extras like color sidebar thrown in. If I wanted Forklift or PathFinder, I’d being using it, not TF. TF starts doing this and next thing you know you are headed down the path (pun intended) to being PathFinder want a be, or Forklift. Other people feel strongly that TF should support FTP/webDAV/, folder synching, file compare and cloud access and on and on. Adding that into TF would probably increase its size and complexity many times over. Search features are not simple there is a lot that goes into it behind the scenes. Some developers fall into the trap of wanting to please everyone and begin adding these features, and what was once a small, fast, app that specialized in one thing and did it well, becomes heavier, bloated mess with a mish-mash of features. It seems whenever an app becomes successful at doing one or a few things, people start wanting to add this or that feature, and of course every person feels the feature on their ‘want’ list is the most important. Command Line tools – A terminal right in your file browser that provides a graphical interface to some popular UNIX utilities.Although I understand the usefulness of this, I respectfully disagree that it should be added to TF.File List Sorting & Filtering – Sort by folders first, or limit a list of files by name or extension.Tabs & Bookmarks – Use the best features of a web browser in your file browser. Drop Stack – Freeze drag & drop operations by placing files into a temporary stack.PathFinder works in both Leopard and Snow Leopard. This feature is based on one of the developer’s other projects, Visor, which offers system-wide Terminal access.
As a helicopter translates to cruise, the induced power decreases, and the profile power increases, with the profile power dominating the tail rotor. The main rotor speed corresponding to the minimum main rotor power increases, if the change of tail rotor power in hover is considered. In hover, the tail rotor may not be able to provide enough thrust to counter the main rotor torque, if it is slowed to follow the main rotor speed. However, it increases the main rotor torque and the corresponding required tail rotor thrust to trim, which then decreases the yaw control margin of the tail rotor. Reducing the main rotor speed can result in lower main rotor power at certain flight conditions. The predictions of the main and tail rotor powers are generally in good agreement with flight tests, which justifies the use of the present method in analysing main and tail rotors. A helicopter model able to predict the main rotor and tail rotor powers is presented, and the flight test data of the UH-60A helicopter is used for validation. The correlation of vibratory hub loads is generally poor by both methods, although the coupled analysis somewhat captures general trends.ĪBSTRACTVariable tail rotor speed is investigated as a method for reducing tail rotor power, and improving helicopter performance. Maximum reduction of IBC actuator force is better predicted with CAMRAD II, but general trends are better captured with the coupled analysis. Coupled CAMRAD II/OVERFLOW 2 shows excellent correlation with the measured rotor power variations with the IBC phase at both μ = 0.35 and μ = 0.4. However, the correlation degrades at μ = 0.4. CAMRAD II predicts the rotor power variations with the IBC phase reasonably well at μ = 0.35. At the optimum IBC phase for rotor performance, IBC actuator force (pitch link force) decreased, and neither flap nor chord bending moments changed significantly. Measured data show a 5.1% rotor power reduction (8.6% rotor lift to effective-drag ratio increase) using 2/rev IBC actuation with 2.0° amplitude at μ = 0.4. Wind tunnel measurements of performance, loads, and vibration of a full-scale UH-60A Black Hawk main rotor with an individual blade control (IBC) system are compared with calculations obtained using the comprehensive helicopter analysis CAMRAD II and a coupled CAMRAD II/OVERFLOW 2 analysis. The study produced eleven options that can improve and/or enhance the next generation Black Hawk's FOV if incorporated into the new design. However, under dynamic conditions the UH-60A cockpit design and normal flight characteristics substantially reduce the FOV in critical areas. The only exception is the obstructed view that the door and windshield vertical structures create. The study revealed the current UH-60A design meets the requirements of MIL-STD-850B under static conditions. Also, the study team collected technical data related to military rotary wing design, administered a survey to pilots and interviewed users and other technical experts. Close attention was given to dynamic flight characteristics that affect FOV. The study involved a comprehensive review of Army requirement documents, existing FOV studies, and accident data. Army tasked an independent contractor to investigate the problem and propose alternatives. To improve the FOV in the next generation Black Hawk, the U.S. Changing flight tactics and increased use of Night Vision Goggles (NVGs) has focused attention on the limited Field of View (FOV) of the Army UH-60A Black Hawk Helicopter. So, Warner will let them do it, if they pay for that. But because the DVD have DRM, citizens cannot do it. The idea is:Ĭitizens bought DVD with DRM through the years, and now they want to put the movies into the laptops, into the tablets, and so on. Warner told us, in the beginning of this year why legal protection to DRM exists: to force citizens, the honest ones, to pay 3 or 4 times for the same movie. The legal protection to DRM is not for pirates, is for honest citizens. If you know how DRM systems work you understand they couldn’t prevent piracy anyway. That was the excuse used to convince politicians to pass the law. If someone breaks the DRM, one’s breaking the law and one’s being a "pirate".īecause the whole purpose of the legal protection to DRM was not to prevent piracy. It does not matter if you bought the content. If you believe in controlling the content you buy, you should start saying the politicians that represent you that they should make laws that allow citizens to break DRM for lawful purposes or stop buying content with DRM. Note that if you simply convert the ebooks to Epub, you won’t have this issue. This should only happen once, so it’s a relatively minor issue. Windows will need to be told that calibre can open the files. I’m looking at my Win 7 laptop right now and the Kindle ebooks are found in "My Kindle Content" under My Documents.Īfter you copy the files into calibre, you might have some trouble getting calibre to open them so you can read them. This varies depending on which version of Windows you’re running, but they can usually be found under the My Documents folder. Calibre should now be able to read the ebooks and convert them to whatever format you prefer.īut before you can do that you’ll need to find out where the Kindle ebooks are stored. You should be able to copy any ebook you’ve downloaded from the K4PC app to calibre. You’ve just installed and configured the plugin (assuming all went well). Some times the plugin won’t kick in until you after you do this. Shut down calibre and launch it again. There should only be a single ZIP file in that folder, and it should be called "DeDRM_plugin".Open it, and then open the DeDRM_calibre_plugin folder. Use the file browser window to find the folder you downloaded.Click on the one that says "load plugin from file". And now you’ll get another new window.Look on the bottom row for the one that says "plugins". It will bring up a new window with a bunch of icons. There’s one on the far right called "Preferences". When it’s open, look at the icons on the top row. Open the folder called calibre and you should see a folder full of plugins. UnZip the ZIP file you just downloaded. While it’s being installed, go to the Apprentice Alf website and download the ZIP file full of plugins. Install the apps one at a time (and set up your account with the K4PC app, if you haven’t already). And K4PC is how you’ll download the ebooks. I’ve mentioned it once or twice, and that’s what you’re going to use to remove the DRM. If you have either of them then you do not need to install them again:Ĭalibre is of course the ebook library management tool. You need to download and install these apps on your computer. ( Kobo is a separate process.) If you’ve followed my instructions for removing Nook DRM then you’ve already finished the process of setting up to strip Kindle DRM, and you can skip to the end of this post. Luckily for you, you only have to go through the set up process once in order to remove Kindle, Nook, and Adobe DE DRM. Once you’ve installed the plugin, all you have to do is find where Kindle4PC put the ebooks on your computer and drag each ebook into calibre (everything else is automatic). Here’s the short-short version: You need to get the DeDRM plugin from Apprentice Alf and install it in calibre (and reboot calibre). But I also believe in controlling the content I buy and that is why I strip the DRM. I did not write it to assist in committing piracy I believe in buying content, when possible. But first, a few warnings. I have long been on the side of removing DRM (it’s the best way to protect your purchases), but up until today I had never gone beyond pointing my readers at tools. It’s the cause of more pain and agony than a Snooki photo, and today I plan to help fix that. They worked for me on that day.ĭRM is the bugaboo of ebooks.
